Al-Tawqi Season 2026-2027 Opens at King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve: What to Know

Al-Tawqi Season is back for a second year. The King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has launched the 2026-2027 edition, which runs from October until April and offers nature, adventure and heritage experiences inside the reserve (Tfaseel, from SPA). Here is what has been confirmed so far, and how to plan a visit.

What was announced

The authority’s CEO, Eng. Maher bin Abdullah Al-Qathmi, launched the season at a ceremony in Al-Tawqi, under the patronage of Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, chairman of the authority’s board. At the launch, the authority presented the new season’s activities and improved services for visitors and operators (Tfaseel, from SPA).

  • Dates: October 2026 to April 2027.
  • Edition: the second. The first ran from October 2025 to April 2026 (TradeArabia, from SPA).
  • Last season’s visitors: more than 20,000 over 78 days.
  • Slogan: “We revived it… for you to live it.”

Last season’s activities

The authority has not yet published a full list for this season in the reports we checked. Last season, visitors could try (Tfaseel; TradeArabia):

  • Hiking and stargazing
  • Horse riding and camel riding
  • Traditional archery
  • Paragliding and cycling
  • Birdwatching and nature photography
  • Heritage trips

Last season also set aside 125 sites for free camping. Al-Qathmi said the lessons of the first season shaped this one, with the aim of meeting visitors’ expectations and opening more chances for operators, partners and the local community.

Why the reserve looks greener

The season’s slogan points to the restoration work behind it. Al-Qathmi said the authority has rehabilitated more than 600,000 hectares of vegetation cover, alongside tree planting, habitat protection and bringing wildlife back. He said the work supports Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative (Tfaseel, from SPA).

This fits the wider greening push across the country. The National Greening Program opened its 2026 planting season on 7 October, as we reported in National Greening Season starts on 7 October.

What this means for you

  • A seven-month nature window. If your autumn weekends usually mean malls or events, this is a seven-month window for camping, riding and stargazing. Riyadh Season opens on 21 October too (see what has been confirmed), so you can plan both.
  • Check before you drive. Activities, sites and any booking rules for 2026-2027 should come from the official King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve website and its channels. Do not rely on last season’s list.
  • Pack for cold nights. Desert nights in winter can be cold. Our winter weather prep guide has a checklist for cold nights and rain.
  • Camp responsibly. The season is built around protecting the reserve’s environment. Use the camping areas set aside for visitors and take your rubbish home.
